Nitmiluk Gorge is a dreamland of towering sandstone cliffs and deep-water vistas that have carved the landscape over millions of years. Using oils, I aimed to highlight the vibrant colours and texture of this breathtaking landscape. The foreground is in shadow, while early morning light reveals the colourful sandstone cliffs that flank the gorge. This creates a distinct change in colour hues of the Gorge, as reflected and direct light play over the landscape during the daylight hours. Importantly, Nitmiluk is awe-inspiring to all who visit it and is pivotal to the ancient Dreamtime stories of the Indigenous Jawoyn people.
