My aim was to illustrate the gentle nature of the Shire draught horse as it playfully nibbles the farrier from behind. I am inspired by the work of H.S. Power (1877 - 1951). I first viewed his work ‘Beaching the Lifeboat’ at the Heritage Art Gallery of Ballarat. Power’s ability to capture the strength and beauty of heavy horses have left an indelible mark on my aspirations as an artist. I have framed the horse with the barn opening to show its shape, while using artificial light from inside the barn to reveal the body contours of this magnificent animal.

Pender Bay is situated in a remote coastal area of the Kimberleys. It has red pindan rock cliffs that reflect in the ocean, forming a distinctive view. An iconic scene, familiar to the remote corners of the Australian outback. A practice when feed is scarce, the drovers would take their cattle along the grass-lined roadways – the long paddock - to take advantage of the extra feed. In this scene, the trusty Border Collie works alongside its boss to move Black and Red Angus.

Nitmiluk Gorge is a dreamland of towering sandstone cliffs and deep-water vistas that have carved the landscape over millions of years. Using oils, I aimed to highlight the vibrant colours and texture of this breathtaking landscape. The foreground is in shadow, while early morning light reveals the colourful sandstone cliffs that flank the gorge. This creates a distinct change in colour hues of the Gorge, as reflected and direct light play over the landscape during the daylight hours. Importantly, Nitmiluk is awe-inspiring to all who visit it and is pivotal to the ancient Dreamtime stories of the Indigenous Jawoyn people.Dimensions: 90cm x 45cm

Having a love of heavy horses, I wanted to capture the character of these majestic animals in oils. I am inspired by the work of Harold Septimus Power, an Official War Artist during WWI. Heavy horses were often the subject of his work, and I first viewed his work ‘Beaching the Lifeboat’ at the heritage Art Gallery of Ballarat. Power’s ability to capture the strength and beauty of heavy horses have left an indelible mark on my aspirations as an artist. I used light, shadow, and form to emphasise the horses’ strong physique and to portray their purpose as working horses. I wanted to capture the look in their eyes and the flick of their ears that show their gentle and willing nature. In this way, evoking a sense of sentimentality in the viewer for this not-so-often seen sight.Dimensions: 90cm x 45cm

The crumbling giants are remnants of the iconic Apostles, located in coastal Victoria. The artwork illustrates a coastal landscape in dramatic retreat. Using a realistic style, the painting shows the layers of sedimentary rock that have been laid down over millennia to form these massive structures that were once part of the mainland. Standing in defiance of the powerful ocean forces, it seems they have broken free of the mainland. Nevertheless, some of these mighty structures have collapsed in recent times, foretelling their inevitable demise. This will mark an end to an era that has led many a traveller to the southern reaches of the Australian continent.

Description: 'The Foal' shows a natural 'abstractness', visible in the evolution of colour and lines in wildlife for survival. In this case, the zebra foal is hidden in plain view because its markings line up with its mother’s stripes, while it is feeding and vulnerable. The foal blends in and becomes seemingly one abstract entity with its mother. 'The Foal' is an addition to my 'Abstract Naturally' series, exploring a deeper and often hidden meaning to the images.Dimensions: 510 x 410 mm
