This painting is actually from my imagination. It is acrylic on watercolour paper, painted mainly with a palette knife, I find this technique ideal for rocks giving the rough textural surface.

The old Denison House in Pt Denison/Dongara inspired me to embark on an "Images of Dongara" series. I fell in love with the front door, having so much character and beauty in the weathered wood. I felt the history oozing out through the peeling layers of paint.
The site was originally occupied by a flour mill in 1865. Some years later stones from the mill were used to build Denison House, a delightful building on the banks of the Irwin River. In 1944 the Benedictine Order from New Norcia purchased the building for use as a summer retreat. Now owned by the Irwin Shire it is used by various communnity groups as well as artists.

Built approx 1912, this lovely building began life as the Carlton Tearooms. It has had a checkered career over the years, having been a tearooms, cabaret hall, billiard hall, sly grog shop and various restaurants. After being emply for a few years it has been recently renovated and reopened as a popular restaurant.
