Viking Berserker Chess Piece
The Viking Berserker chess piece, dating back to the 12th century, is part of the iconic Lewis Chessmen set discovered on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. These chess pieces are carved from walrus ivory and whale teeth, showcasing the incredible artistry and craftsmanship of the Norse people.
The Berserker piece, in particular, represents a fierce warrior, biting his shield in a display of unbridled ferocity, embodying the spirit and valor of Viking warriors.
As part of the Lewis Chessmen set, the Berserker piece holds a significant place in history. The set is believed to have been crafted in Norway and brought to Scotland, highlighting the extensive reach of Norse culture and trade. These pieces are not merely game pieces but are intricate works of art that reflect the society, beliefs, and customs of the time.
