Sue Lamport

Born in Perth, Western Australia, 1974. I got my Certificate of Art and Design from Central TAFE in 1998 but further studies were cut short due to my parents divorce. I lived with my mother for a short time, then I moved out, lived in Broome, before moving back to Perth to start a family. I never abandoned my art, I always had my sketch book with me (I even learned how to make my own sketch books) but I always thought painting was out of my league, having only dabbled briefly during my studies. That was until recent years when I was hit hard by depression and anxiety, I was at my end so I began to seek inspiration with painting tutorials on YouTube. I was amazed at how well I took to painting, I now I wonder why I took so long to give it a go, it has become my preferred art style. I have known about the Armadale Society of Artists for some time but I my anxiety kept me from contacting them, until I met Gavin Gracey from Art vs Depression. We work together to help children express themselves through art with the Resilient Friends Club at school. This work it as helpful to me as it is to them. Gracey told me that it was important to get my work out there despite my fears and I knew he was right. So here we are. I’m looking forward to what the future may hold.
