John Hartnett

John G Hartnett

Western Australian artist Dr John Gideon Hartnett began painting in oils at about the age of 11. He taught himself from books his mother bought him. At 13 years old, in 1965, he won the West Australian newspaper state art competition for under 14 year olds. He continued painting up until completing his final undergraduate year at the University of Western Australia, where he studied physics. After 1974 John became involved with other commitments and never painted again until after he retired in 2016.

His preferred medium is oil on canvas. He enjoys trying new ideas but is still developing his own style. His interests include realism and semi-realism of nature, seascapes and landscapes.
